Karen Osiecki Meehan, a partner in Gould & Ratner’s Real Estate Practice, celebrated her retirement from the firm on February 29 after more than 50 years with the firm, which included more than 40 years of practicing law.
Karen started at Gould & Ratner on February 1, 1971, as a secretary, later working as a paralegal and as the firm’s Office Manager. She successfully balanced her full-time job while raising two sons with her Chicago Police Officer husband and attending college and law school at night. Karen earned her J.D. from Loyola University Chicago, passed the Illinois bar and was sworn in as an attorney in November 1981, joining the firm’s Real Estate Practice.
A significant portion of her practice involved handling personal real estate transactions for members of the Crown Family, the firm’s first client.
“Karen’s skill and ease in handling sophisticated residential real estate purchases and sales across the country belied their tricky and often bespoke nature,” said Joe Marzo, chair of G&R’s Real Estate Practice. “She has been graceful, resourceful and responsive, but never afraid to get tough with the other side when it was needed.”
Gould & Ratner’s longtime support of Habitat for Humanity Chicago was embodied in Karen and her longtime commitment to handle the charity’s house closings and help teach its new homeowners the ropes. Habitat recognized Karen’s thousands of hours of volunteer time over many years by awarding her its Golden Hammer Award in 2016.
