After a distinguished 36-year career with Gould & Ratner, Partner, General Counsel, and former Managing Partner and Litigation Practice Chair Paul Carroll is retiring from the firm.
Throughout his tenure, Paul has been a trusted litigator and advisor, representing developers, lenders, property owners, contractors, and businesses in complex real estate and financial disputes across Chicago, the Midwest, and nationwide. Known for his hands-on approach and practical problem-solving, Paul has guided clients through high-stakes litigation involving commercial properties, partnerships, and lending relationships.
“Paul has made countless material contributions to Gould & Ratner since he joined the firm as an associate in 1989: chairing the Litigation Department, serving on the Management Committee, guiding the Firm as General Counsel, and spending countless hours mentoring younger attorneys,” said David Michael, Managing Partner. “Paul’s superpower, however, has always been the outstanding relationships he has built with clients, serving not only as a dogged court-room fighter but even more importantly as a trusted counselor who understood their business intimately and provided comprehensive and practical legal counsel.”
Paul’s dedication to his clients, colleagues, and the broader Chicagoland community leaves a lasting mark on the firm. We thank Paul for his many years of service, leadership, and dedication to Gould & Ratner and wish him all the best in his retirement.
